Dough

  • 2¼ tsp active dry yeast

  • 1 tsp honey or sugar

  • ¾ cup warm water (105–110°F)

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Caramelized Onion Tomato Sauce

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 whole onion, finely diced

  • 1½ cups diced tomatoes

  • 1 bay leaf

  • ½ cup nutritional yeast

  • Salt to taste

  • Pinch of cinnamon

Toppings

  • Mozzarella cheese

  • Pepperoni slices

  • Chopped dates

  • Sweet Chipotle Pecans, roughly chopped

  • Fresh basil (added after baking)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Make the Dough

Mix warm water, yeast, and honey and let foam. Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Knead until smooth. Cover and let rise until doubled.

Make the Tomato Sauce

Heat olive oil and slowly caramelize the diced onion. Add tomatoes and bay leaf and bring to a gentle boil.

Remove and discard the bay leaf. Using a blender or immersion blender, pulse-blend about half the sauce

and return it to the pot. Stir in nutritional yeast, salt, and cinnamon. Simmer 30 minutes.

Shape the Pizza

Stretch dough, shape into a heart, and poke the center with a fork.

Assemble

Add sauce, cheese, pepperoni, dates, and Sweet Chipotle Pecans—in that order.

Bake

Bake at 500°F for 8–12 minutes until golden and bubbling.

Finish

Remove from oven and top with fresh basil. Serve warm.
